Whatever
Fl studio mobile is great
Looks like in the end the MPC One gets more use than the Force, the MC101, the Circuits and there is no reason to touch the Deluge. Interesting.
There are pretty decent mini PCs manufacturers nowdays, in my experience a PCs + USB controller ends up covering all the needs in terms of music writing recording, mix, voice recording, mastering, full VST support etc. I do use Maschine 2.0 and some of their usb devices, but the same story could apply to Ableton or other DAWs paired with some USB device. For different reasons it seems you don t get that far even with an expensive groovebox, meaning that the process of making a full (vocal) song results too complicated, impossible or with too many compromises on these stand alone machines. Regarding portable, battery powered grooveboxes, story is different, but normally they got paired with a pc unit when you want to make a "full song" out of the loops you made on the go.
unfortunately I bought one of the packages from RMR via gumroad. I lost my money, I didn't get my package. Be careful with these sites
As you say. It's design, a piece of art. You can buy it for this price and make music with. As you can buy a Jeff Coons sculpture, hitting it with your hands, and be a musician. I agree with you for the idea that making music is not necessarily having expensive gear. You already have a free to use instrument : your body.
Bladrunner was a great movie.
I own both of these. the lack of a screen on the Circuit Rhythm is absolutely disastrous. All that power locked behind colour coded pads? Rhythm has 15 different views (or modes): good luck remembering what (for example) two adjacent lilac coloured pads mean when you are in Probability View, or Sample View. Each track is a different colour: track six is pale green, for instance. Track three is purple.Jeez, who makes colour coding such a vital part of the core process of anything, ever?! The learning ramp for Rhythm is monstrous. You'll have the manual open constantly because it is IMPOSSIBLE to intuitively figure out and apply any of the dozens of advanced techniques. And the manual must be in colour; if you are colour blind, forget it.
Great video. Thank you very much T_T
This video makes me more interested! Mostly with the percussion and glitch. I agree it’s not good on melody. I prefer playing my melody stuff.
Thank you for your videos. I am considering one of these or another. I want to be able to use these live with a band, and purely with iPad. Which would you recommend for the iPad?
Thanks for this video. I want something with buttons which can do all at the same time... for a beginner. I also work with computers so it is nice to be able to leave the computer behind.
Advise for beginners: The best sample based groovebox to start with if you are into dance, house, techno music is Elektron Model Samples. If you are into rap, hiphop, beatmaking, fingerdrumming - your first groovebox is Akai MPC One/Plus. If you have more money get MPC Live2 as it has battery and built in speaker. Don't waste your money on Volcas, Pocket operators and other tiny devices. They will not allow you to learn a lot.
In my turn I'm in love with my Akai Force. You get the most for your buck: 64 pad RGB pressure/velocity sensitive controller, advanced sample editing, built in synthesizers and effects (you can add more for your buck), huge amount of storage with additional SSD/HDD, Wifi, Bluetooth, Ableton like clips and Scenes launched from pads or from touchscreen, Arranger mode to finally finish your song! It has Auto Sampler to sample your or your friend's hardware syth so that you'll have multi-sampled version of it in your possession. It has lots of buttons and pots (for buttons and pots lovers). All in all it's the best groovebox on the market! Just one con: it's big. I had MPC One, Elektron Digitakt (still have), Elektron Model Samples, lots of Volcas (still have Sample2). Out of all of them Akai Force is the most advanced tool to finish your song.
Just got mine... this will help me! Thanks!!
Hey man, I really dig your stuff! Could I possibly commission you for a pack or a few 80's patches? I'm a newb and still learning sound engineering. :)
You're too quick when you explain. If you want to explain to a beginner you have to be calmer. In 10 seconds of video you have already explained 4 different functions.
Videos like this are refreshing for one simple reason: yes you're being critical but you're not treating this like some kind of smear campaign you're just stating your opinions on the masterclass and what you felt was good and unnecessary about it whilst allowing us to make up our own minds about what we think of the masterclass with little to no leading language (yeah you pointed out his homophobic remarks but only in relation to how it made _you_ feel rather than how it should be making _us_ feel) I mention this because social media tends to have a bit of an obsession with the whole "us vs them" dynamic and using it when it doesn't really feel necessary; deadmau5 is hardly someone who's causing serious damage to the music industry. It's not like if he suddenly dropped off the face of the Earth the industry would just miraculously heal himself. To me he's just this guy who can be arrogant and abrasive but ultimately means well.
Could you perform live with the MV 1?
Good job man ! You are a natural industrial head : more please get Ohmicide Distortion for your daw, now it's free you will like it this is good
Rad, I'll give it a look
Koala sampler is JUST like a sp 303 to me , xcept its a 1000 times easier to get started . And the longer you sit with it , the deeper your music will go . Super happy they made this , making beats on a Dj app was becoming a hassle
Reminds me of an Elektron analog rytm.
You say "80s cheese" like it's a bad thing. Throw some cool guitar riffs over this and it's the sound of my early adulthood. Gotta get me a Tracks.
Nah it's not a bad thing at all, I like to lean into it from time to time!
FYI: heroin is cheaper.
I’m about to get in to sampling Gabe
I watched your Scaler video and I want to mix different genres using different sample packs at the same time in maschine MK3, I need to sincronice the BPM, the tune, and use Scaler to find the scale, and if is possible use scaler o any other free or cheap software to generate melodies by genre, can you make a video? Could be interesting when you know how to play a genre but you don't how to play the other one.
Love it Gabe) old fav, in the vein...ruclips.net/video/oeD3V-vCTHs/видео.htmlsi=jC-94e9IO8UGLuLO
Thank you, I've been suffering from the word dance all the time, your video really helps me
I love the bits you hate :) reminded me why I love this thing
Fair! Helping people find what they like and lean into it is the goal of these videos
@@GabeMillerMusic Just reread my comment and it comes across as snarky sorry! What I meant was: awesome video, shows how it caters to many tastes if you dig the workflow...inspired me to go power mine on. That's better :)
No worries, you're all good! I figured that's what you meant
my homie young male dj at your thumbnail !
Really nice mate. Thank you for taking the time to explain. Can you confirm which sample packs, expansion packs and plugin you've used. I caught Jura. Any other plug in s you'd recommend for techno and house?
Thanks! I didn't use expansion packs for samples, mostly just sounds I got on Splice Sounds by searching stuff like techno percussion, kick rumble, etc. Jura is great for this kind of stuff, and I've gotten some nice ambient stuff from the FM synth plugin. Don't sleep on Hype for leads and basses though!
Nice video. I been obsessed with drill beats this year and today I'm pulling out the mc101 to have a go at making a drill beat on it. This video inspired me to have a go at it on the little black box.
Nice one! Did you layer your kick as it sounds really fat? Great!
Thanks! I used the sample by itself, and soft clipped it a bit.
I adore Battery 4 but I wish we could buy just the library on its own from Native instruments
Honestly your an absolute beast on the MPC Gabe. Thanks for showing the range and possibilities with the MPC! 🔥
So in love with the first bit!!! But not gonna lie. That second bit was disappointing compared to the first.
Glad someone with hardtek in their name enjoys the first one, I'll take what I can get!
Right on, Gabe. You are killin’ it.
Hi! In this video how exactly you connect together the minilogue and the electribe? I have the same devices, but I am beginner.... can you teach me, please. Thank you!
Og es1 and ex1 user here. Even had the em1, which paved the way for the tube driven parents of this. Sometimes working in a confined unit can help you get the most out of a machine like this.
Hell yeah man always hyped to see more electronic stuff with the MPC. I'd love to see them implement more tools that make it compete with Elektron for doing things like IDM/glitch/breakcore.
I'm quite new to producing n just purchased. Is it good for folks with no music theory.
I'd say so. It's got scales and chords mapped to the grid of pads
keep on.

Gnicely gnarly! 👍
Tons of electronic metal, great combo imo
Edm vocals and metal is kinda just make them suffer
Was wonder if you are doing all your mixing and mastering in the MPC or if you do any outside the MPC. I had an MPC ONE several years ago and feel I didn't give it a fair chance and going to give it another go.
For the intro versions of the beats in the last few MPC techno videos, I did a bit of light mastering in post, but everything you're hearing was mixed in the box. For full songs, I usually do end up exporting the individual tracks and mixing in my DAW though, just because it's easier to have more control and more effects.
